DISINFO: Kamala Harris wants to increase pressure on Kazakhstan to promote liberal values
SUMMARY
If elected President of the United States, Kamala Harris will promote LGBT rights, which is unacceptable for Kazakhstan, as well as the issue of the so-called Uyghur genocide in China. Her age and lack of political experience could lead to more emotional or abrupt actions. The election of Kamala Harris is not good for Kazakhstan and the post-Soviet space as a whole. Increased pressure on the region to promote liberal values is expected. Typically, a Democratic administration in the U.S. is characterised by an ideological approach rather than a pragmatic one, imposing its values on other countries.
RESPONSE
An unfounded conspiracy theory and a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative aimed at discrediting female politicians and leaders. The goal of this disinformation story is to discredit Kamala Harris’s candidacy by baseless portraying her as an incapable and non-independent actor. This case charged with the gender stereotypes ultimately aims to undermine Harris’s bid for the presidency.
This case is also fits into the prominent “threatened values” disinformation narratives used by pro-Kremlin outlets. The narrative is adapted to a wide range of topics and typically used to discredit liberal Western attitudes about the rights of women, ethnic and religious minorities and LGBTI groups among others.
It portrays the West as a decadent and immoral society that destroys traditional values. The accusation unfoundedly claims that the West is trying to destroy Russia and neighbouring countries, forces it to defeat geopolitically, economically and even morally, seeks to export its hostility to traditional values, materialism and perverse attitudes to non-Western nations.
Read similar cases claiming that Kazakhstan could become a refuge for those who reject Western values; that EU Resolution on Central Asia: critical materials for LGBT agenda; the replacement of traditional values with LGBT values aim to destroy the institution of family, that global capitalism destroys religion, tradition, the family and spirituality, that unlike Russia the West degrades traditional values and endangers societies.
