DISINFO: Kirillov was killed by order of the Americans for exposing US military biological activities
SUMMARY
The possibility of US involvement in the death of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, Chief of the Russian Armed Forces' Radiation-Chemical and Biological Defence Troops, cannot be dismissed. General Kirillov frequently spoke about US military microbiological laboratories operating in Ukraine. So it cannot be ruled out that he was killed on the orders of the Americans. He exposed the activities of these laboratories, held regular press conferences, briefings, where he showed what the Americans were doing in such labs.
RESPONSE
This is an attempt to exploit the killing of Russian top official Igor Kirillov in Moscow on 17 December 2024 to promote a long-discredited disinformation narrative about Western biolaboratories in Ukraine, used as a justification for Russia’s brutal invasion of its neighbour 'on defensive grounds'.
Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the Russian Armed Forces' radiation, chemical, and biological defence troops, was killed in Moscow on December 17, 2024. The United States denies any involvement in his assassination. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stressed that the US was not involved in the special operation. But he added that Kirillov "was a general who was involved in a number of atrocities. He was involved in the use of chemical weapons against the Ukrainian military…a unit under his command has used riot agents in violation of international law on the battlefield."
Ukraine has not officially claimed responsibility for the killing of the Russian general, but sources in Ukrainian law enforcement agencies confirmed to journalists that the special operation to liquidate Kirillov was carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The day before the assassination, on December 16, 2024, the SBU reported in absentia about suspicions against a Russian general who ordered the use of banned chemical weapons against the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
Kirillov was under US and British sanctions for his role in Russia’s alleged use of chemical weapons in Ukraine’s frontlines. Ukrainian authorities charged Kirillov in absentia for these actions, which might be a more probable reason as to why Ukraine’s intelligence services went after him.
Claims about US military biolaboratories are part of a years-long disinformation campaign and have been debunked over and over again. Specific allegations about the presence of these facilities in Ukraine have been refuted by multiple experts, including by the UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu and by Russian biologists who examined Moscow’s “proof”.
