DISINFO: Kyiv and the West do not think about peace because they need war
SUMMARY
Kyiv and the West do not think about peace. They need war. This is confirmed by the bandit invasion of the armed forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region and the permission requested by Zelenskyy to strike the depths of Russia with NATO's long-range weapons. This is the continuation of terrorism against the population of our country. We will not talk to terrorists.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that the West and Ukraine do not want peace. The claim is part of an ongoing pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign in Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This claim denies Ukraine's legitimate right of self-defence and aims to portray its actions as terrorism driven by foreign interests.
The claim was made in the context of the potential organisation of a second peace summit. Russia was not invited to the June meeting, attended by delegations from more than 90 countries, and dismissed its deliberations as meaningless without Moscow's participation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he hopes to organise a follow-up meeting by the end of the year, with Russia attending. Russia refused to participate in the summit.
The assertion that Western countries harbour a desire for the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine lacks any substantial foundation and is devoid of factual support.
Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin have a track record of pretending negotiations which are, in fact, just blunt demands for Ukrainian unconditional surrender. We have analysed and exposed this disinformation tactic in several articles, especially: "Prepare for winter" (30 Nov. 2023), "Russian so-called ‘peace proposals’ are empty PR stunts" (18 Jan. 2023) , "What He Said and What it Really Means – Vol. 2: “Negotiations” (1. March 2022) and "The Kremlin security demands" (21 Dec. 2021).
The continuation of the conflict in Ukraine serves neither the strategic nor the economic interests of Western nations. Stability in Ukraine and the wider region is conducive to global security and economic prosperity. See the joint US-EU statement.
Russia has attacked Ukraine. Moscow's armed aggression is unprovoked, illegal and unjustified. Ukraine’s offensive in Kursk is not a terrorist act. According to the UN Charter, Ukraine has the right to self-defence against Russian aggression. The incursion into the Kursk Region is part of Kyiv’s military strategy aimed at liberating all Ukrainian territories from Russian occupiers and restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders of 1991. Russia is using military facilities in the Kursk Region and other adjacent regions for deadly attacks on Ukrainian territory, which have caused thousands of civilian victims.
Ukraine's international allies have repeatedly stressed that Ukraine has the right to carry out any military operations aimed at de-occupying its territories.
