DISINFO: Kyiv conducts energy terrorism under the supervision of the US

SUMMARY

The attempt by the Kyiv regime to attack the Russkaya compressor station in Krasnodar Region is essentially a continuation of the line of energy terrorism that Kyiv has been following, apparently under the supervision of overseas friends, for a long time.

This is a new, very dangerous link for European consumers in the chain of actions on explosions, organisation of explosions, and sabotage on the Nord Stream. The beneficiary of all this is the US, which significantly and consistently increases the supply of liquefied gas to European markets.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing Ukraine of terrorism and the US of supporting terrorism, with Ukraine being portrayed as a puppet state. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Such statements are intended to divert attention from Russia’s barbaric attacks. Ukraine’s energy system has been regularly targeted by Russia since its full-scale invasion in 2022, with attacks intensifying since the spring of 2024. The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine raised an alert following significant destruction to power plants and a worsening energy crisis that has affected access to electricity, clean water and heating, while also pushing up prices for consumers.

Ukrainian attacks on Russia are legitimate military action. Every country has the right to self-defence when defending itself against an armed attack. Since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, Ukraine’s actions in response, including attacks on Russian military infrastructure, have been regarded as self-defence.

Terrorism refers to acts of violence targeting civilians with the intent to spread fear and achieve political aims, while Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory are part of defensive actions, aiming to disrupt military infrastructure and logistics. Ukraine's partners also view these attacks as self-defence against Russian aggression and occupation, and thus part of a conventional wartime strategy in full compliance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. A broad coalition of more than 50 countries, including some NATO member states, are providing military and financial aid to help Ukrainians defend their country.
