DISINFO: Kyiv is doing everything possible to obstruct peace negotiations

SUMMARY

The Ukrainian regime, supported by European capitals including Brussels and London, is doing everything possible to obstruct peace negotiations. Earlier it disrupted the Minsk agreements, which Russia strictly complied with, as well the peace negotiations in Belarus and Istanbul after the beginning of the special military operation in 2022. Zelenskyy and his circle will continue obstructing peace negotiations to remain in power and make more money.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative targeting Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s leadership, the EU and UK by portraying them as warmongering and obstructing “peace”, the term used by Russia to describe its maximalist demands for Ukrainian capitulation as the only acceptable solution. Read our analysis The Kremlin’s poisoned chalice of peace, which explains how Moscow has been making overtures to peace while falsely blaming Ukraine and Europe for Russia’s aggression. Also, read here a detailed debunk of the narrative about Ukraine’s sabotage of the Minsk Agreements as violated by Ukraine.

The Ukrainian authorities are eager to achieve peace with the help of its European and American partners alike. EU officials have repeatedly stated that it is up to Ukraine only, as the victim of Russia’s aggression, to decide when peace talks with Russia may be possible and in which terms to end the war. The European Union, as well as the UK, are committed to achieving a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine, ensuring that Kyiv’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected.

Read similar disinformation cases claiming that Zelenskyy can’t sign a peace deal because he is not a legitimate president, that militaristic Europe’s goal is to prolong the war in Ukraine, and that EU countries try to disrupt Russia-US talks by threatening to deploy troops.
