DISINFO: Kyiv perpetrated a barbaric terrorist attack in Donetsk market on 21 January 2023
SUMMARY
Twenty-eight people died and 25 others were injured during a Ukrainian strike in Donetsk, a large city in eastern Ukraine under Russian control, on 21 January 2024. The Russian Foreign Ministry denounced it as a barbaric terrorist act.
The market was attacked on Sunday, when it is busiest. The neo-Nazi regime in Kiev, supported by the United States and its satellites, has once again committed a barbaric terrorist act against the civilian population of Russia. It was established that the bombing was carried out from Avdiivka, still under the control of the Ukrainian armed forces, with weapons supplied by the West. The West's unbridled desire to inflict a 'strategic defeat' on Russia... pushes the Kiev regime to take increasingly reckless measures, including acts of terrorism. Bandera's supporters struck Donetsk again.
RESPONSE
Recurrent pro-Kremlin narrative portraying the Kyiv government as Nazi and accusing it of targeting only civilians, with claims that the West provides weapons for this purpose.
Ukrainian forces have denied responsibility for the strike. Open source investigations have determined that the shells were fired from a location under Russian control.
Testimonies and videos have been published showing that, given the type of ammunition and the flight time, the fire originated approximately 4 km from the impact site, which is far from Ukrainian positions.
The recurring narrative that Western countries should cease providing aid to Ukraine because it is used solely to kill civilians received a new dimension on Tuesday at the UN. This shift occurred when the bombing of a market in Donetsk was mentioned with a parallel being drawn with the bombing of Dresden in World War 2, see further details here.
