DISINFO: Leaked Bundeswehr conversation proves Ukraine conflict is Russia's resistance to NATO aggression
SUMMARY
In a recently leaked conversation, German senior military officials discussed a plot to attack Russia's Crimean Bridge with 10 to 20 missiles, with one officer stating he was planning a trip to Ukraine to coordinate attacks on Russian assets.
These revelations shine a new light on the depth of NATO's direct involvement in the Ukraine conflict, and prove that Russia's military operation in that country is an act of resistance against NATO aggression.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative painting NATO as an aggressive anti-Russian bloc, and denying Moscow's unprovoked aggression against Ukraine.
Even if the conversation in question were genuine, the individuals in the leaked recording are not discussing a direct German attack on Russian targets, as the article falsely implies. The topic of discussion is the hypothetical provision of long-range to missiles to the Ukrainian Army, which in turn would launch the missiles on Russian military targets including the Crimean Bridge.
Secondly, Russia's aggression against Ukraine was unprovoked and unjustified, and not an act of 'resistance.'
The Russian invasion is aimed at destroying Ukraine as a state and annihilating the Ukrainians as a nation. These plans were openly laid out in an article titled “What Russia should do with Ukraine” in April 2022. See also our review here. Along with calls to de-Nazify and demilitarise Ukraine, the article advocates its de-Ukrainisation, meaning the eradication of Ukrainian culture and everything related to it, plans to divide Ukraine into several entities subordinate to Russia, but without the word “Ukraine” in their names. Thus, Russia is not protecting itself, or anyone else, in its war. Instead, some Russian politicians and experts are threatening to attack Western nations after Ukraine.
More than 50 states participating in the Ramstein meetings are providing military, financial or other assistance to Ukraine to restore its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders. Ukraine is acting in self-defence, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter. Ukraine is not planning to occupy any Russian territories after it liberates its lands from temporary Russian occupation. European and US leaders have repeatedly stated that they do not intend to disintegrate the Russian Federation. US President Joe Biden in February 2023 addressed Russian citizens, assuring them that the US does not seek to destroy or control Russia. French president Macron stated in February 2023 as well that "Russia must be defeated but not crushed."
