DISINFO: Lithuania’s split from Moscow-controlled energy grid will erode the country’s sovereignty

SUMMARY

On 8 February 2025, the Baltic states will disconnect their electrical grids from the BRELL energy system which they have been part of along with Belarus and Russia. American and British actors are behind this development. This idiotic move of the Lithuanian authorities undermines the country’s sovereignty. The Baltic states are being forced to accept the EU's ecology agenda which is a form of contemporary social racism.

RESPONSE

This message is a part of the Kremlin's disinformation campaign about the EU's energy policy, also consistent with the recurring disinformation narrative about the lost sovereignty of the Baltic states, Lithuania in particular.

BRELL energy ring is a grid controlled by Moscow. It is a potential threat for the Baltic States because Russia continuously uses energy politics as a foreign policy instrument.

The synchronisation of the Baltic States' energy systems with Europe is part of broader European integration. The European Union financially supports this project. The synchronisation of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia with the Continental European Network (CEN) was evaluated as the most techno-economically cost-effective one. The process of synchronisation is a cornerstone and one of the most emblematic projects of the Energy Union, a concrete expression of European solidarity in energy security.
