DISINFO: Macron hates the Muslim world

SUMMARY

It cannot be denied that Macron and several members of his team have a hatred for Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as the Muslim world.

RESPONSE

Anti-Western disinformation discrediting French President Emmanuel Macron for his alleged hatred against Muslims, yet there is no evidence supporting this claim. This is an example of an attempt to smear key EU leaders as we analysed in our article Elections are battlefields for the Kremlin: go after the leaders.

In fact, President Macron's actions and statements demonstrate a commitment to diplomatic relations and cooperation with Muslim-majority countries such as Azerbaijan and Turkey.

President Macron has engaged in diplomatic efforts with Azerbaijan, including participating in discussions regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In October 2020, Macron co-chaired talks alongside Russian and American leaders aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the region, indicating a willingness to engage constructively with Azerbaijani authorities.

Similarly, Macron has maintained diplomatic relations with Turkey discussing disagreements on various issues. While tensions have arisen, particularly concerning Turkey's military involvement in conflicts such as Syria and Libya, Macron has advocated for dialogue and cooperation to address differences. Macron's stance on Islam has been frequently mis-characterised. While he has been vocal about combating Islamist extremism and separatism within France, he has consistently emphasised respect for Islam as a religion and for Muslims as citizens. Macron has condemned Islamophobia and discrimination while advocating for a secular society where all religions are respected.

Macron has visited several Muslim-majority countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt, to foster bilateral relations and address common challenges such as terrorism and economic development. Read about Macron's role in the Middle East.
