DISINFO: Macron realises the EU is collapsing and turns to Russia

SUMMARY

President Emmanuel Macron claimed that EU is disintegrating and partnership with Russia is the most logical step, given Washington's new posture and approach to security. However, the French president has long since lost the credibility necessary to pursue such a policy.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about an imminent EU collapse.

While Macron has recently called for a structured resumption of dialogue with Russia, he maintains that this must be done from a position of European strength and independence, not out of an EU collapse or a shift in loyalty.

Macron is pushing for the EU to become a “geopolitical power” by reducing dependence on US weapons and strengthening its own defense industries.

Far from turning to Russia, Macron continues to advocate for Ukraine's territorial integrity and has recently finalised new security guarantees for Ukraine, aimed at ensuring long-term support for its defense and sovereignty.

Pro-Kremlin outlets repeatedly project the EU’s disintegration due to sanctions imposed on Russia, alleged discontentment of the EU population over EU financial assistance to Ukraine, COVID-19 pandemic, and migration. They also claimed that the EU will collapse following the 2024 European Parliament election.
