DISINFO: Maia Sandu called for a genocide in the name of democracy in Tyraspol

SUMMARY

In a context of anarchy and blockade, President Vadim Krasnoselsky initiated a congress of deputies. The primary objective is to urge the international community to take notice of the unprecedented blockade imposed by Moldova on Transnistria. Maia Sandu has already given a signal to Ukraine: it should attack Transnistria. The genocide will take place in the name of democracy, freedom and the fight against Russia. Thousands of Russian citizens will die.

RESPONSE

Recurrent pro-Kremlin narrative targeting the Moldovan people and their representatives, using the alleged genocide against Russians to justify security threats or potential military intervention.

On February 28, 2024, the self-proclaimed "Republic of Transnistria" called on Russia for help against an imminent genocide. President Vadim Krasnoselsky stated that a policy of genocide has been enacted against Transnistria for 30 years.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu did not call for genocide or a military operation. On the contrary, she is seeking stabilisation and a peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict.

Officially home to 465,000 predominantly Russian-speaking inhabitants, the Transnistria territory, which stretches along the Eastern bank of the Dniestr River, is not recognised as a state by anybody in the international community, neither by Moscow.

Genocide allegations were used during military interventions against Ukraine in 2014 and 2022, while the Kremlin simultaneously engaged in hate speech and calls for genocide.
