DISINFO: Mainstream Polish parties led to the sale of all the Polish national wealth, putting their country under American and German dependency

SUMMARY

The post-Solidarity parties are a misfortune for Poland because they have ruled this country for 30 years in an incompetent way. These political forces led to the sale of all the Polish national wealth; they made Poland under the dependency of the West, especially the USA and Germany. Thus, these parties have lost any moral right to consider themselves “better” – they have no rights to monopolise the political scene in Poland.

RESPONSE

This message is pro-Communist disinformation, questioning the successful political and economic transformation of Poland from a Communist dictatorship to a democracy and market economy.

Poland is a democratic country, in which citizens are free to choose their authorities. The current largest Polish parties (Law and Justice, Civic Platform) present themselves as political forces coming from the Solidarity movement.

The Communist-type economy, which existed in Poland between 1945 and 1989, was unable to provide the Polish people with a satisfactory level of life. By 1989, the state-run Polish Communist economy, based on large industrial enterprises, had exhausted itself.

Over the last two decades, Poland has become one of Europe's most dynamic economies, enjoying uninterrupted economic growth since the early 1990s, with average GDP growth of 4.2% a year, doubling its GDP between 1990 and 2015. This growth has allowed Poland to narrow the economic gap with the EU's most developed economies: the Polish GDP (at PPP) increased from 32% to 60% of the Western European average. Polish society shows its predominant support to the membership of their country in the EU (91%) and NATO (82%). Read more about the Polish transition to democracy here.
