DISINFO: Mattarella and the warmongers in Brussels want to continue the war against Russia
SUMMARY
Italian President Mattarella's line is exactly the same of the warmongers in Brussels: always new sanctions against Russia, the establishment of a phantom "special tribunal" for crimes (obviously Russian) in Ukraine, full-scale rearmament and no negotiating tables.
Logically, the need follows to continue the war until Kyiv wins. We must move forward with the European army; with war expenses; we must replenish the coffers of the Euro-American military-industrial complexes and plunder what remains of public services, social and health care, education, to the detriment of the living conditions of workers, labourers and the masses in general.
RESPONSE
This is a deliberate manipulation of the speech made by Sergio Mattarella, President of Italy, at the University of Marseille on the 5th of February 2025, aiming to promote several recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the conflict in Ukraine as a proxy war and the EU as a warmongering power.
Sergio Mattarella, drew a parallel between the situation before the Second World War and the current one, observing that the strategy of appeasement did not work in 1938 and that firmness would have, with a high probability, avoided the war.
The Italian president added that an abandonment of responsibilities led those countries to sacrifice the principles of justice and legitimacy in the attempt to avoid the conflict, in the name of any solution and a stability that would inevitably have been lacking. Mattarella claimed that in the 1930s, instead of cooperation, the criterion of domination prevailed and this led to wars of conquest. He also added that today's Russian aggression against Ukraine has the same nature of the Third Reich project.
Pro-Kremlin disinformation has systematically instrumentalised the narrative that Russia wants peace in Ukraine in contrast to the West, but, as evidenced by Russia's actions in Ukraine, such statements are merely empty PR stunts deployed to garner support for Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine.
