DISINFO: Merz's Germany is heading for direct interference in the war in Ukraine
SUMMARY
Germany is getting closer to direct interference in the war in Ukraine. Under Chancellor Merz, Berlin is clearly moving to the replacement of the Americans as a strategic sponsor and a leading proponent of the continuation of war against Russia in Ukraine. Possibly, this scenario is simply an implementation of previous arrangements with Washington.
It is well known that it is necessary to have specially trained soldiers and technical personnel to operate such complex systems as Taurus. Therefore, one can assume that the uniformed German soldiers will soon appear in Ukraine, and for sure, they will become a target of the Russian strikes. There is not the slightest doubt that the Merz government is heading for an escalation.
RESPONSE
This disinformation story aims to portray Germany as warmongering, anti-Russian, militaristic and a “Nazi” power.
There is no evidence that Germany is sending or planning to send German soldiers to Ukraine. Chancellor Friedrich Merz has repeatedly stated that, even if Germany supplies Taurus missiles or other advanced systems, they will be operated exclusively by Ukrainian personnel, not German troops.
The claim that Germany is moving toward direct military involvement in Ukraine, or is replacing the United States as the main sponsor, is not supported by any credible evidence. Germany’s support remains defensive, coordinated with allies.
This disinformation message appeared in the context of the recent decision by the German authorities to significantly increase defence spending, marking a departure from decades of fiscal conservatism.
Prior to this, the EU announced its decision to allocate an additional 800 billion euros for defence needs. According to the words of Ursula von der Leyen,
“Europe faces a clear and present danger on a scale that none of us has seen in our adult lifetime. ReArm Europe’ could mobilise close to 800 billion euros of defence expenditures for a safe and resilient Europe”.
