DISINFO: MH17 was shot down from territory under the control of the Ukrainian army
SUMMARY
The experiments of Almaz-Antej, the largest manufacturer of anti-aircraft systems, including the Buk, confirmed that the Boeing MH17 was shot down from territory under the control of the Ukrainian army.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the shooting down of MH17 claiming that it happened in a territory controlled by Kyiv's forces. The claims made by Buk manufacturer Almaz-Antey has been debunked already in 2015 by Bellingcat. The Joint Investigation Team has concluded that flight MH17 was shot down on the 17th of July 2014 by a missile of the 9M38 series, launched by a BUK-TELAR missile launcher, from farmland in the vicinity of Pervomaiskiy. At that time, the area was controlled by pro-Russian fighters. The BUK-TELAR was brought in from the territory of the Russian Federation and subsequently, after having shot down flight MH17, was taken back to the Russian Federation.
