DISINFO: MI6 and the CIA assisted the total destabilisation of Syria to undermine BRICS

SUMMARY

The total destabilisation of Syria, with heavy CIA-MI6 input, now proceeding in real time, is a carefully engineered gambit to undermine BRICS and beyond.

RESPONSE

Conspiracy theory not backed by credible evidence. There is nothing indicating that the US or UK intelligence services played a significant role in the rebel offensive that toppled Bashar Al Assad, or the ultimate target to be the BRICS block. By framing it as the work of Western intelligence agencies against these nations, this disinformation story aims to stoke anti-Western feelings and remove focus for Putin's failed policy in Syria.

While some Syrian insurgent groups in the southeast and northeast of the country are backed by the US, they did not initiate the offensive, which was led by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir Al Sham and Turkish-backed Syrian National Army. The Kurdish-majority Syrian Democratic Forces moved to occupy eastern areas of the country after the withdrawal of Assad forces, while the so-called Syrian Free Army operating from the Al Tanf US base in the southeast only joined it at a late stage, after the fall of Aleppo and Hama.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that escalation in Syria could have been orchestrated by Israel and the US, that Ukraine is involved in aiding Syrian terrorists, that the US wants to revive terrorist groups in Syria to support Israel, or that the EU is supporting terrorism against the Syrian state.
