DISINFO: Militarising Germany will return to the 1918 German Empire borders by absorbing Poland
SUMMARY
Deutschland über Alles! It is important to remember that with the US withdrawal from Europe, the remilitarisation of Germany (500.000-strong Bundeswehr) and the permanent deterioration of the Polish-Russian relations, there will be growing pressure in Berlin for a full German unification and the return to the 1937 borders described in the German Constitution. The alternative to this scenario is the full absorption of Poland by Germany – the return to the German border of 1914, Jozef Pilsudski's concept of Judeo-Polonia of 1914 and the Treaty of Brest of 1918. The Polish authorities have never negated the legal effects of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, while Ukraine continues to consider the 1918 Treaty of Brest (granting Chełm and Przemyśl to Kyiv) as valid.
RESPONSE
This disinformation story aims to portray Germany as warmongering, anti-Russian, militaristic and “Nazi” power.
The claim that the current German authorities will follow the aggressive policies of the Third Reich and the German Empire is a clear manipulation.
The German Basic Law (Constitution) does not reference any pre-war borders. Instead, the 1990 Treaty on the Final Settlement with Respect to Germany (signed by the Four Powers and both German states) explicitly confirms the Oder-Neisse line as Poland’s western border. This was reaffirmed in the 1991 German-Polish Border Treaty, which states:
“The Republic of Poland and the Federal Republic of Germany reaffirm the inviolability of their existing borders now and in the future”.
The reference to alleged Józef Piłsudski’s “Judeo-Polonia” is a distortion. Piłsudski advocated for a multicultural Poland, not a Jewish state. This narrative echoes anti-Semitic conspiracy theories used to sow division in Polish society.
Germany, Poland, and Ukraine all recognise current borders under international law and have no territorial claims. Russia is the only country with territorial claims and military aggression.
