DISINFO: More attempts are made to revise the results of WWII, to equal USSR and Germany
SUMMARY
Recently, more and more attempts are being made to revise the lessons and results of the war, to justify the Nazi criminals and their accomplices, to make the Soviet Union responsible for unleashing the war, equal to that of Germany.
However, these attempts to distort history in favour of the political conjuncture are opposed by the facts reflected in the original documents. They convincingly testify that the Western leaders, even after Germany's attack on Poland, tried in every possible way to continue the policy of appeasing the aggressor, which led to the sad consequences, and waged the so-called "strange war."
The actions of the Soviet leadership in the pre-war period were based on the desire to maintain de facto neutrality for as long as possible, to use the gained time to strengthen the country's defence capability and create a security zone around it.
RESPONSE
This message is part of the Kremlin’s policy of historical revisionism and an attempt to erode and diminish the disastrous historical role of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, in particular denying USSR responsibility for starting WWII after signing the pact in 1939.
The Soviet Union started collaborating with Nazi Germany in 1939. The Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact of August 1939 between Germany and the USSR contained a secret supplementary protocol that stipulated a coordinated Nazi-Soviet attack on Poland and the carving up of Eastern Europe between the USSR and The Third Reich. Just a week after the signing of the Pact, the German attack on Poland started World War II. Two weeks later, Soviet troops entered Polish territory. Later in 1939, Soviet Russia attacked Finland.

This paved the way for the start of World War II, as also mentioned in the European Parliament resolution. It further states that the German invasion of Poland followed by the USSR, starting WWII, was “a direct consequence of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.” The resolution is aimed at the promotion of historical remembrance about WWII and condemnation of totalitarian ideologies.
