DISINFO: Most of the world believe in the just nature of Russia's position

SUMMARY

The majority of the world's nations and the international community believe in the principled and just nature of Russia's position, which aligns with UN resolutions and the principles of the UN Charter.

I expect to see dynamic shifts in the positions of European leaders who have supported, endorsed, and even instigated the policies against Ukraine in recent years. We will witness their gradual abandonment of these positions as they realise the resounding failure they have suffered, while Russia today possesses all the capabilities to confront and defeat NATO.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative attempting to white-wash Russia's unjustified and illegal war against Ukraine.

As such, it aims to portray Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a principled action supported by the international community, aligned with international law and the UN Charter.

Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the international community has repeatedly and overwhelmingly condemned Russia's actions. For example, Resolution ES-11/1, adopted shortly after the invasion began, saw 141 countries vote to deplore Russia's aggression and demand an immediate withdrawal, while only five nations—Russia, Belarus, Syria, North Korea, and Eritrea—voted against it.

Subsequent resolutions, such as ES-11/4 in October 2022, which condemned the illegal "referendums" and attempted annexations of Ukrainian regions, received even higher support with 143 votes in favour.

Even as the conflict entered its fourth year in 2025, the core of the international community has remained steadfast in calling for a peace that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. For example, on the third anniversary of the invasion, UNGA resolution ES-11/7 reaffirmed Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while calling for accountability for war crimes. Despite intense Russian diplomatic pressure to increase abstentions, the resolution passed with 93 votes in favour and only 18 against.

Article 2(4) of the UN Charter emphasises that UN members may not infringe on the territorial integrity or political independence of any state - a clause that Russia violated by invading and occupying parts of Ukraine.

Russia has consistently ignored and violated UN resolutions, specifically the repeated demands from the General Assembly for the "immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal" of all its military forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. The Russian position has been formally and consistently characterized by the UN as an act of aggression that undermines global security.

See similar cases that Russian policy rests on UN Charter, enjoys global support, that the world does not support Ukraine, at best 14 countries, that Ukraine lost all its friends, that Ukraine is abandoned, a third-rate colony, and that Russia complies with the UN Charter in Ukraine.
