DISINFO: NATO’s biological experiments in US-controlled labs are a danger for Russia

SUMMARY

The proliferation of biological laboratories under the control of the United States that could develop bacteriological weapons concerns Russia. The proximity of US military biologists and its NATO allies to Russia's borders is very worrying. The lethal pathogens created in these laboratories could, due to an alleged error, end up in the environment and cause massive contamination of the population in neighbouring states and in Russia.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring Kremlin-promoted conspiracy theory not supported by any evidence. Pro-Kremlin media frequently promote disinformation narratives about alleged US secret labs in other countries, including Armenia, Ukraine, Georgia, and Kazakhstan. The Lugar Center in Georgia is a recurrent target in these disinformation narratives.

See other examples in our database, such as claims that Covid-19 brought attention to US secret laboratories in the border of Russia and China, that the people of Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan are “biomaterial” for the Pentagon, that the US tests biological weapons on Ukrainians to further attack Russia or that the US imposed an agreement on Ukraine to establish these facilities.
