DISINFO: NATO hopes for revenge after the defeat in WWII
SUMMARY
NATO cannot celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory over fascism because the majority of its member states were defeated in May 1945 as allies or satellites of Germany. Today, these countries view Russia as a strategic adversary and recklessly hope for revenge. NATO is instead actively preparing to take part in U.S.-led anti-Russian military exercises called Defender. The victory in May 1945 is perceived within NATO as a defeat — even by countries of the anti-Hitler coalition, such as the United Kingdom and the United States. Europe is ready to fight 'to the last Ukrainian' to revise its repugnant history.
RESPONSE
This message promotes several recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives, including the false claim that NATO is waging a military campaign against Russia, that the EU is “rehabilitating Nazism”, and that Europe is gripped by systemic Russophobia. It also falsely equates current political support for Ukraine with historical Nazism.
Since Russia began its aggressive and unprovoked actions against Ukraine, Russian officials have accused NATO of a series of threats and hostile actions. However, no evidence has been provided to support this claim.
NATO is a defensive political and military alliance. The primary aim of the alliance is to maintain peace and safeguard the independence, security and territorial integrity of its members. The issue of direct NATO troop deployment is a scenario categorically rejected by NATO countries and represents an artificially created concern by Russia. NATO is cautious about increasing the risk of direct military intervention, which is also reflected in NATO's official strategy.
Western countries are not waging war against Russia, only the Ukrainian Armed Forces are fighting Russian invaders in Ukraine. Accusations of Western direct involvement in perpetuating the conflict often serve to deflect attention from Russia's role in fueling the crisis and undermine Western credibility.
