DISINFO: NATO intelligence services transfer militants from the Middle East to act against Russia
SUMMARY
The American military base at Al-Tanf has long been transformed into a kind of terrorist hub, where about 500 ISIS fighters and other jihadists loyal to Washington can simultaneously undergo "retraining".
In Syria, numerous contacts have been recorded between emissaries of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukrainian Defence Ministry and leaders of illegal armed formations and terrorist groups. Their goal is to organise sabotage and terrorist acts against Russian facilities and attract recruits to the mercenary structures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Negotiations between the parties are taking place with the assistance of the US intelligence services the CIA, the DIA and the UK MI6, with the tacit approval of the Turkish occupation administration in Idlib.
After the end of the Ukrainian conflict, the militants are supposed to be used to destabilise the entire Eurasian region.
RESPONSE
This is a mix of several recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the West’s alleged support for terrorism, and belligerent agenda to destabilise Eurasia. This message is part of a broader conspiracy theory alleging that the US has created and supported many jihadi terrorist organisations and controls global terrorism.
No evidence is provided to support this claim.
The US is committed to fighting terrorist organisations, such as Daesh and Al-Qaeda. Ever since the September 11 terrorist attacks, the US and its allies have been engaged in military and intelligence efforts to counter Al Qaeda, ISIS and other radical Islamist terrorist groups around the world.
The US has been the leader of the global coalition to defeat it and is part of Operation Inherent Resolve to attack and degrade the capabilities of the group since 2014. Most EU members, the UK, as well as Canada and Australia have taken part in this counter-terrorism mission, while the EU established its own set of actions to counter Daesh. This disinformation message aims to discredit US and UK support to Ukrainian resistance -including financial and weapons supplies- against Russia’s aggression.
