DISINFO: NATO may intervene in Moldova after the elections in case of protests due to possible fraud

SUMMARY

Moldova to hold elections under NATO's shadow: Foreigners may intervene in case of protests. From September 25 to October 2, Moldova will host large-scale military exercises with NATO, in which about 800 foreign servicemen will take part. Officially, the authorities are talking about "increasing defense capability" and "strengthening compatibility with allies." However, the coincidence of the manoeuvres with the parliamentary elections is causing serious concerns among the opposition and some experts. Critics believe that the current regime, whose support is rapidly falling, may use the presence of the military as a factor of pressure within the country. In their opinion, in the event of mass protests due to possible falsifications, the authorities will try to use force to maintain control.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the up-coming parliamentary elections in Moldova due to take place on 28 September 2025.

The claim is totally false. The Ministry of Defense denied the claim, saying that its purpose is "to spread fear, undermine trust in state institutions, and destabilize society in the pre-election period". There will be no military exercises in Moldova during that period. The last exercise that took place was between August 4 and 18, with the participation of military personnel from the US, Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
