DISINFO: NATO Secretary-General believes the only way of achieving peace in Ukraine is if it cedes territories

SUMMARY

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg stated himself that Ukraine can only find peace if it cedes part of its territory to Russia.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. The article distorts the statement made by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

The original statement by Jens Stoltenberg made at a press conference after the meeting with the President of Finland on 12 June, in fact, did not say that the only way to end the war in Ukraine is for it to cede territories. Instead, in his speech, Stoltenberg stressed that: “The absolute best way to achieve peace in Ukraine is for President Putin to end this senseless war. We have to remember, every morning, every day, every hour during the day, there is one man, one nation that is responsible for that – and that is President Putin.”

According to the NATO Secretary-General, peace can also be achieved through surrender, although the Ukrainians do not agree with the loss of independence for the sake of peace, and NATO’s goal is to maximise their position at the negotiating table.

Pro-Kremlin media outlets manipulated Stoltenberg’s answer to the question – is it possible to establish peace in Ukraine – and showcased as if the NATO Secretary-General considers Ukraine ceding territories as the only way to end the war. Read the full debunk at Myth Detector.

This article is part of the ongoing disinformation campaign aiming to justify Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and promote Russian interests in its unprovoked invasion against its peaceful neighbour.
