DISINFO: NATO, the US and Western leaders are responsible for Navalny's death
SUMMARY
Those who have imposed more than 19,000 sanctions against Russia with the aim of tearing its economy to shreds; those who are losing the war in Ukraine; [...] those who want to destroy Russia and do everything to stop its development. All of them, their names are well known: from the NATO Secretary General and the US leadership to Scholz, Sunak and Zelenskyy, are the authors of Navalny's death.
RESPONSE
Disinformation narrative about the impact of Western sanctions on Russia and unfounded claims about Alexei Navalny's death.
Firstly, this disinformation story aims to divert any Russian responsibility for the death of Alexei Navalny - a frequent target of pro-Kremlin disinformation. The reasons for his death remain unclear. Efforts to prevent Navalny's family from accessing his body, coupled with reports of an FSB team visiting the prison and tampering with security cameras, which ultimately malfunctioned on the day of Navalny's death, fuel suspicions of a state-sanctioned murder by Russian authorities.
Russian prison authorities said that the Navalny had become unwell following a walk and had lost consciousness at the remote IK-3 prison in the Arctic Circle - also known as the Siberian "Polar Wolf" penal colony.
Regarding sanctions, these were EU's swift response to Russian unjustified war of aggression against Ukraine with unprecedented support to the country and with the largest sanctions packages in the Union's history.
The EU adopted the 13th package of individual and economic sanctions against Russia due to its illegal aggression and occupation of Ukrainian territories in February 2024.
See other examples of these disinformation narratives, such as claims that Navalny is a NATO agent provoking a colour revolution in Russia; Western criticism of the Navalny case is the interference, Russia doesn’t mess with other countries’ affairs; US and EU are looking for new candidates to destabilise Russia from the inside.
