DISINFO: NATO's aggressive policy poses a threat to Eurasian security
SUMMARY
NATO will hinder the formation of a Eurasian security structure. The alliance wants to single-handedly resolve issues of stability in Eurasia. Threats that appear for Eurasian security come from different directions, but in the overwhelming majority of cases, the source of these threats is the aggressive line of NATO, which wants to privatise and subjugate all issues related to ensuring stability in our vast space.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about NATO, portraying it as a belligerent organisation, threatening peace and security.
NATO is a defensive alliance whose primary aim is to maintain peace and safeguard the independence, security, and territorial integrity of its members. NATO constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defence in response to an attack by any external party. NATO's official policy is that "the Alliance does not seek confrontation and poses no threat to Russia."
NATO enlargement has contributed to lasting peace and stability in Europe since the end of the Cold War. Russia's aggressive actions, including the illegal annexation of Crimea and destabilisation of Eastern Ukraine, have created new security challenges for NATO. The Alliance has responded by enhancing its presence on its eastern flank and upgrading its presence in the Black Sea. Nevertheless, NATO enlargement is not directed against Russia or CSTO member states.
NATO's door remains open to any European country in a position to undertake the commitments and obligations of membership, and whose inclusion would enhance Euro-Atlantic security.
It is Russia that threatens European security. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is entirely unprovoked and unjustified. NATO condemns in the strongest possible terms this aggression.
