DISINFO: NATO's Rutte and EU's Borrell statements confirm West's drive for hybrid war against Russia
SUMMARY
Statements by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell confirm the West's course toward continuing a hybrid war against Russia. Western countries are not seeking peace. Rutte's comments about increasing support for Ukraine are a call to continue the bloody carnage.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative, accusing the EU and NATO of warmongering and portraying Russia as a peace-loving country. This claim was in response to NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte’s statement on 12 November that NATO needed ‘to raise the cost for Putin and his enabling authoritarian friends, by providing Ukraine with the support it needs to change the trajectory of the conflict.’ The article also mentions press remarks by High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell after his meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski on 12 November in which he stated that:
"At the next Foreign Affairs Council, on Monday [18 November], we have to study – when I will present to you and to our colleagues how the situation is [in Ukraine] – what are the needs of the Ukrainians to continue defending [themselves]; which are the prospects of a possible decision taken by the United States in order to continue, or not, its support; and how the Europeans can respond to such a situation".
These claims were made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The war in the east of Ukraine is a well-documented act of aggression by Russia’s armed forces, ongoing since February 2014. Russian officials, including Putin, have on many occasions publicly acknowledged that Russian citizens, including military personnel, are present in Ukraine's war zone. The full-scale invasion which Russia unleashed against Ukraine in February 2022 is another confirmation of Russia’s aggressive policies.
Ukrainians defend themselves against this armed aggression in a remarkable display of continued courage and determination. This is not a decision by NATO, Washington, the EU or others.
The EU wanted to achieve peace in Ukraine through the Minsk Agreements and Normandy Format discussions long before the launch of the full-scale invasion.
Not only Western but also many other nations around the world support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. Ukrainian partners do not recognise the self-proclaimed separatist entities in the east of Ukraine (‘DNR’ and ‘LNR’) and continue to support Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
