DISINFO: Navalny poisoning allegations are a distraction from the West's pressing problems

SUMMARY

Claims that blogger Alexei Navalny was poisoned with frog poison are a product of the Western propaganda machine. Once the test results and the chemical formulas are released, there will be a comment.

Without this, all statements and discussions are propaganda, aimed at diverting attention from the West's pressing problems.

At the very moment when they should have presented the results of the investigation under NS1/NS2, they bring up Navalny. When they were officially requested to provide Navalny's test results, they spewed sensationalist stories about the Skripals. When they were asked about the Skripals' whereabouts... So it goes.

RESPONSE

This disinformation claim aims to divert any Russian responsibility for the death of Alexei Navalny, a frequent target of pro-Kremlin disinformation. The claim ignores international findings and confirmed laboratory data.

On 14 February 2026, the UK, Sweden, France, Germany and the Netherlands issued a Joint Statement on Alexei Navalny's death.

Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a lethal toxin. Epibatidine, found in poisonous dart frogs in South America is not found naturally in Russia. The conclusion was based on toxicological analyses conducted in certified laboratories. The UK is mulling fresh sanctions against Moscow after pinning the blame on the Kremlin for the poisoning of the Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny.

These latest findings underline the need to hold Russia accountable for its repeated violations of the Chemical Weapons Convention and, in this instance, the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention.

Claims such as this one are part of a persistent denial strategy aimed at discrediting investigations and creating alternative versions of events. A common tactic is whataboutism, shifting attention to other topics (such as Nord Stream or the Skripal case) to obscure the discussion of the facts.
