DISINFO: Nazi Ukraine promotes racial superiority over Russians and Americans
SUMMARY
The Ukrainians are Nazis who believe that they are racially superior over the Russians. They despise the Americans as well, but the Americans are stronger, which is why the Ukrainians have to bow to them. It resembles what was happening in Nazi Germany. The Nazis despised the Jews, who were stronger than them. But the Nazis had to make use of the Jews.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing Ukraine of being a Nazi country. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine is not a Nazi state. Nazi and Communist ideologies were banned by Ukrainian law in 2015. Ukraine is a well-established democracy with a functioning parliament, president and government. Six presidents have been elected since the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991, which means that a democratic political life is flourishing in Ukraine. Accusations of Nazism are one of the most common pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives aimed at undermining the statehood of Ukraine. The narrative of alleged Nazism in Ukraine has been actively used in Russian disinformation since the 2014 Euromaidan protests to discredit Kyiv’s shift toward Euro-Atlantic policy. Putin and pro-Kremlin outlets have been widely using the myth of a ‘Nazi Ukraine’ to justify the illegal annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in February 2014, which has escalated into the ongoing full-scale invasion since 24 February 2022.
Ukraine receives military and technical assistance from a broad coalition of more than 50 countries throughout the globe, including the EU and the US. This coalition helps Ukraine repel Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression.
Read similar disinformation cases claiming that Ukraine promotes Nazism because it oppresses Russians, that The West created an anti-Russian and neo-Nazi Ukraine, and that The EU’s plan to enhance military cooperation with Ukraine is a Nazi trend.
