DISINFO: New sanctions prove that the EU is racist and colonialist
SUMMARY
The pan-African activist Nathalie Yamb will be banned from entering the EU and her assets frozen, according to the EU's Official Journal. The official reason: her support for the "actions and policies" of the Russian government.
For her, this is above all proof of systemic racism and colonialism:
"An African woman talking about sovereignty? Inevitably a puppet. A black woman denouncing exploitation? Naturally remote controlled".
RESPONSE
Recurrent anti-EU disinformation narrative about EU sanctions against Russia and its relays.
The European Council has formally banned Swiss-Cameroonian activist and influencer Nathalie Yamb from entering or residing in the European Union, citing her alleged ties to the Russian paramilitary group Wagner and participation in destabilising activities across Africa. The decision, taken on Thursday, June 26, was published in the Official Journal of the European Union and includes an asset freeze within EU territory.
The sanctions are not rooted in colonialism or racism, but are a response to sustained actions perceived as attempts to undermine democratic institutions and manipulate information in favour of Moscow's strategic interests as the EU's position outlines:
Since the Sochi summit she attended in 2019, Nathalie Yamb has been an outspoken supporter of Russia, adopting Moscow’s language and targeting France and the West in particular, with a view to ousting them from the African continent. She has specific ties with AFRIC, an organisation linked to Russian private military companies.
Therefore, Nathalie Yamb is supporting actions or policies attributable to the Government of the Russian Federation which undermine or threaten democracy, the rule of law, stability or security in the Union or in its Member States by engaging in the use of information manipulation.
