DISINFO: NGO representatives became shadow government in Moldova
SUMMARY
NGO representatives became shadow government in Moldova. For years in Moldova, a system of civil society, funded from abroad, was built, which was a kind of shadow government of the country, and then these people from non-governmental organizations came to power.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about NGOs funded by international donors, presenting them as foreign agents of influence.
Before and after presidential and parliamentary elections in 2020 and 2021 respectively, this narrative has been intensively circulated in Moldova, promoting the message that the current pro-European Government is not independent and ruled from the shadow by foreign forces.
Allegations against Moldovan NGOs, including those who receive funding from Western countries, are baseless and not backed by any evidence, and are connected to a long-standing pro-Kremlin stance that frames political opposition, independent media and civil society organisations as Western Trojan horses and “foreign agents”.
See here a similar case claiming that Moldova is under the soft occupation of Western NGOs and here a case on how the West uses NGOs in a hybrid war against Russia.
