DISINFO: Non-systemic opposition exists in the EU, like in Russia

SUMMARY

The collective West feeds Russia's so called non-systemic opposition. They all are freaks and mentally ill. The situation in the European Union is similar except that it is reversed. The “non systemic” opposition are decent and honest people while the leaders of traditional political forces in the EU are sexless, rainbow wimps or obese cats. Russia should openly and covertly assist those European politicians who oppose the domination of the Yankees, to ensure they achieve favourable results in elections.

RESPONSE

Disinformation about democracy in Europe with a call to meddle in upcoming elections in the European Union. The outlet making these claims features in the February 2024 report by VIGINUM entitled Portal Kombat: a structured and coordinated pro-Russian propaganda network.

The concept of "non-systemic" opposition has existed in Russia for twenty years. It refers to politicians who are not permitted to register their parties or to participate in local or federal elections due to technical pretexts, or who are imprisoned on fabricated charges.

A 2020 background note of the European Parliament describes it as follows:

''The opposition does not only seek to oppose government policies but the regime as a whole. It is kept isolated by the central power through the inability to access most electoral processes. The visibility of non-systemic opposition rose with the 2011-2012 mass protests against Putin’s candidacy to the presidency, following his four-year tenure as Prime Minister after his first two rounds as President. The popular movement was a steppingstone for the emergence of new forms of opposition and some opposition activists became more important actors of electoral politics. As a reaction, the Kremlin stopped ignoring these opposition groups and reinforced its strategy of intimidation''.

In the European Union, there is no concept similar to Russia's "non-systemic" opposition. If individuals believe that traditional parties or representative bodies do not defend their interests, they are free to organize, create new parties, or run for election. They are not imprisoned for their political activities. For instance, in 2019, the Yellow Vests protests saw the emergence of several individuals interested in politics who were included on the lists of traditional parties for elections to the European Parliament. Two lists were even created exclusively from Yellow Vest protesters.
