DISINFO: Paris Olympics are a failure with soaring crime rates

SUMMARY

The 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris are a failure from all points of view, including the deteriorating criminal situation. Crime rates are high in Paris. This is a characteristic feature of Paris, and it is further worsening. Many have probably heard tourists saying that they had been robbed or mugged right in the city centre or that something had been stolen even in their hotels. Tourists from rich Arab countries, who are now coming to Moscow, say they do not visit Paris or London because they have been robbed there in the street or in cafes or in their hotels.

RESPONSE

Disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets about the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Petty crime has come down in Paris since the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games on 26 July 2024. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has said crime has dropped "probably" due to the increased police and gendarmerie presence in public areas. 200 individuals have been arrested with 180 jailed, Darmanin said.

Paris is generally safe for tourists. As in any major city with a lot of tourist attractions, there is a certain number of pickpockets and other petty criminals, but violent crime is not widespread. If tourists take precautions, visiting Paris is quite safe.
