DISINFO: Paris Olympics Opening ceremony was used to push the LGBTIQ+ agenda

SUMMARY

The opening of the Olympic Games in Paris was "marked" not only by an abundance of LGBT symbols. At the opening of the games, first, the Olympic flag was "turned upside down", and then rejected all traditional ideas about morality.

In one of the scenes, called "Celebration", transvestite models gathered around a table, imitating Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper". Then LGBT models proudly walked on stage, followed by a scene by artistic director Tom Jolie dedicated to "freedom and love". During this, two dancers kiss while three others hide in a room.

RESPONSE

Hate speech targeting sexual minorities in the context of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. These claims are based on artistic criticism and speculations concerning the symbolism behind the 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony, which took place on 26 July 2024 in Paris, to imply that an anti-Christian and Satanic agenda was promoted.

Thomas Jolly's purpose in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics was to show that discriminating stereotypes could be broken because if we are all different, we are all alike as human beings and can live together. The five Olympic rings are all different but together. He denied that he intended to depict the Last Supper with Jesus Christ.

"It's not my inspiration (the Christian Supper). There is Dionysus (Philippe Katerine, painted in blue) who arrives at this table. He is there because he is the God of celebration in Greek mythology. The god of wine, who is one of the jewels of France. And the father of Sequana, the goddess who is connected to the river, the Seine. The idea was to have a pagan celebration connected to the gods of Olympus. You will never find in me a desire to mock and denigrate anyone. I wanted to make a ceremony that repairs, that reconciles. And also that reaffirms the values of our Republic, liberty-equality-fraternity", - says the director of the ceremony.

"Threatened values" is one of the most common narratives used by pro-Kremlin outlets. The narrative is adapted to a wide range of topics and is typically used to discredit liberal Western attitudes regarding the rights of women, ethnic and religious minorities and LGBTIQ+ groups among others.

Pro-Kremlin outlets often spread a narrative about the deliberate destruction by the West of values such as the traditional family, religion, spirituality and classical culture, eliminating all forms of collective identity. Russia uses this narrative to try to proclaim itself as the defender of traditional social and spiritual values all over the world.
