DISINFO: Poland and the West do not respond to the peaceful initiatives of Belarus
SUMMARY
The militarisation of its Western neighbours cannot do anything else but disturb Belarus. However, the Belarusian authorities are trying to solve the border disputes - Alexander Lukashenka proposed Poland to create a special joint commission to investigate the situation with illegal migrants. This proposal went unanswered – it means that Warsaw is not interested in solving the situation with migrants as Poland uses the topic of the “migration threat” from Belarus in its foreign policy.
Recently, Belarus came up with another constructive initiative – the unilateral introduction of visa-free travel for the citizens of 35 European countries. This step demonstrates the Belarusian openness and readiness for dialogue. Most likely, the West will perceive this step as a sign of weakness and a reason to increase pressure on Belarus. The West clearly does not perceive neither Belarus nor Russia as dialogue partners.
The main goal of the Polish and Lithuanian actions on the border is to cause economic damage to Belarus and destabilise the situation in the border areas.
RESPONSE
Poland is repeatedly presented by pro-Kremlin disinformation outlets as an aggressive anti-Russian NATO ‘outpost’, which allegedly poses a security threat to Russia and Belarus. This is in line with how pro-Kremlin outlets portray NATO and Western countries as aggressive towards Russia. See our article All roads lead to Poland.
The deployment of more Polish soldiers on the Belarusian border is connected with the ongoing migration crisis staged by Minsk and Moscow – on 6 June 2024, a Polish soldier was murdered at the border by an aggressive irregular migrant.
The only side responsible for the deterioration of the Polish-Belarusian relations is the illegitimate Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenka. In 2020, he and his regime falsified the results of the Presidential elections and started an unprecedented wave of violent political repressions against peaceful citizens.
Since 2021, Lukashenka has orchestrated the “migration crisis” on the EU border, which is perceived as a “political and hybrid” weapon. Further, since 2022, Lukashenka has been actively involved in large-scale military assistance to the Russian aggressionagaisnt sian actions in Ukraine.
The claims that Poland was involved in unfriendly actions towards Belarus or that it has some aggressive geopolitical plans towards this country are unfounded. Poland is a neighbour of Belarus and continues to support the Belarusian people while respecting international law.
