DISINFO: Poland destroyed the perspectives of European integration for Ukraine and Belarus
SUMMARY
The conflict between Poland and the European Union is of direct importance for the former Soviet republics. Western Europeans began to understand that it was a strategic mistake to accept a large Slavic country into their Union as this state is very different from them mentally. The Polish behaviour puts an end to the hopes of Ukraine, Belarus and other Eastern neighbours of the EU to be admitted to the Union one day.
The paradox of history lies in the fact that for many years, Poland actively promoted the European integration of the former Soviet republics, but its recent behaviour put an end to their prospects of joining the EU.
RESPONSE
Recurring disinformation narratives about the EU relations with the countries of Eastern Europe and well-known criticism of Poland.
The claim that the current Polish-EU legal dispute somehow “destroys” the prospects of the EU integration of Eastern European countries is ungrounded.
The relations of the EU with Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova do not have any connection to the Polish-EU disputes. The claim that the Western Europeans perceive the EU integration of Poland as a “strategic mistake” is also ungrounded.
Currently, the Polish authorities are in a legal discussion with EU institutions regarding several important issues connected to the independence of the Polish judiciary system, functioning of the Rule of Law mechanisms and primacy of EU law.
