DISINFO: Poland, Hungary and Romania are preparing to partition Ukraine

SUMMARY

Eastern European countries are preparing their troops to partition this weakened country [Ukraine].

Poland prepared a serious military grouping. Recently, Finland signed a deal with Warsaw on border protection – the Polish soldiers will not tremble in fighting with the Russian troops. The character of training of the Polish Army clearly shows that Poland has bigger plans than the defence of its NATO partners. Increasing the size of the military and the preparation of the civilian population for the Israeli model of warfare are needed for a more important goal - the partition of Ukraine.

Hungary may also take part in this process – it will be necessary for Poland and Hungary to deploy 100-150 thousand soldiers in Ukraine in order to purge this country from nationalists and radicals.

The EU does not take into consideration the fact of the existence of historical Hungarian and Polish territories within Ukraine. Also, there are regular voices in Romania presenting territorial claims for the Chernivtsi region.

RESPONSE

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative challenging Ukraine’s statehood and presenting Poland, Romania and Hungary as states with imperial ambitions. Apart from smearing these EU members, the aim is also to deflect attention away from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This disinformation message has adopted several different and sometimes contradictory forms, including allegations that Poland either wants to create a puppet proxy-state in Western Ukraine or annex these territories or that it is President Zelenskyy who wants to cede this land due to his “Polish origin”.

Poland, Hungary and Romania adhere to international law regarding state borders, fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of neighbouring countries and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries. Poland, as well as the EU and the US, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. No neighbouring state, except the Russian Federation, violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity in a display of imperial, revisionist aggression.

See earlier disinformation cases alleging that Poland thinks that Western Ukraine, Western Belarus and South-Western Lithuania belongs to it, that Poland wants to dismember Ukraine and re-establish a Polish empire, that Ukraine is a Western colony belonging to Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Russia, that Poland will try to gain full military control in Ukrainian territories under the guise of protecting the Polish population from Russia or that Poland plans to establish control over its historical lands in Ukraine.
