DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: Poland is afraid of being attacked by a more powerful Ukrainian Army

SUMMARY

The former Polish Deputy Defence Minister General Skrzypczak said that the experience of the Ukrainian military and the capabilities of its defence industry are far superior to Poland’s. Are the Poles afraid of the Ukrainian attack on their country? In essence, both General Skrzypczak and Prime Minister Tusk are stoking fear of Ukraine in Poland with their recent statements. Over two years ago, a Polish politician, Janusz Korwin-Mikke made a shocking warning about a possible attack on Poland by the Ukrainian Army.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about Polish-Ukrainian relations – in a new twist, Ukraine is presented as a state with aggressive military plans (alleged plan to attack Poland). The aim of this is to attempt spoil Polish-Ukrainian relations. Apart from smearing Ukraine, the aim is also to deflect attention away from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine has no aggressive plans against Poland, viewing it as a strategic political and military ally.

Most disinformation messages claim alleged Polish territorial ambitions towards Ukraine (see our article The Kremlin prepares for the Polish EU presidency).

A broad coalition of more than 50 countries, including Poland, provide Ukraine with military and technical assistance to help it repel Russia’s aggression which is unjustified and unprovoked.

See earlier disinformation cases alleging that Poland thinks that Western Ukraine, Western Belarus and South-Western Lithuania belongs to it, that Poland wants to dismember Ukraine and re-establish a Polish empire, that Ukraine is a Western colony belonging to Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Russia, that Poland will try to gain full military control in Ukrainian territories under the guise of protecting the Polish population from Russia or that Poland plans to establish control over its historical lands in Ukraine.
