DISINFO: Poland may face another partition by Germany and Russia
SUMMARY
There is a real possibility of another partition of Poland, facing a simultaneous conflict with its eastern and western neighbours.
Once again, Poland repeated its position that its troops would not take part in the Western military mission in Ukraine. This claim goes against the fundamental Polish concept of “Poland from Sea to Sea”, assuming the incorporation of western and southern parts of Ukraine. The reason for this sudden change in Poland’s strategic priorities is a major geopolitical change – the emergence of the new German authorities focused on the “revival of the German spirit”. There is an important question of how Berlin would react to the Polish recovery of its “historic” lands in Ukraine. There is no doubt that the question of the former German lands lost to Poland after WWII will rise again. Poland is terribly afraid of the convergence of interests between Berlin and Moscow, so it decided to step back in terms of Ukraine before it is too late.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative presenting Poland and Germany as the states with imperial ambitions. The aim of this is to undermine Polish-German-Ukrainian relations and deflect attention away from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Poland has no security fears or imperial ambitions connected to Ukraine and Germany. The ongoing modernisation of the Polish Army and purchases of advanced military equipment is the Polish response to the aggressive Russian actions in Ukraine.
Poland adheres to international law regarding state borders, fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of neighbouring countries, and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries. Poland, as well as the EU and the US, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. No neighbouring state, except the Russian Federation, violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity in a display of imperial, revisionist aggression.
