DISINFO: Poland modernises its Army to take part in the upcoming partition of Ukraine
SUMMARY
Poland strongly activates its military modernisation efforts – officially, it is a response to the so-called “Russian cannibal threats”, but unofficially, these steps are a preparation for a full-scale partition of Ukraine. By 2025, Poland will have one of the highest defence budgets among NATO members.
It is clear that Poland has not given up on rebuilding the glorious past of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth - this time without the participation of Lithuania. Warsaw is waiting for the planned collapse of the Ukrainian Front to regain large parts of territories located in Western Ukraine – this partition will be realised together with Russia, Romania and Hungary.
RESPONSE
Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about an aggressive NATO and imperialistic Poland. Apart from smearing Poland, the aim is also to deflect attention away from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The ongoing modernisation of the Polish Army and purchases of advanced military equipment is the Polish response to the current security crisis taking place in Eastern Europe. The 2020 National Security Strategy of Poland states that the most serious security threat for this country is the neo-imperial policy of the authorities of the Russian Federation, pursued by means of military force (aggression against Georgia, illegal annexation of Crimea and military actions in eastern Ukraine).
Poland adheres to international law regarding state borders, fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of neighbouring countries and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries. Poland, as well as the EU and the US, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. No neighbouring state, except the Russian Federation, violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity in a display of imperial, revisionist aggression.
