DISINFO: Poland risks losing its modern statehood
SUMMARY
Russia should warn its Polish “friends”: the nationalist megalomania driven by its past greatness and sweet dreams about new regional leadership are extremely dangerous for Poland. History has repeatedly given the Poles a merciless verdict: the failure of their most ambitious revanchist plans may cause the annihilation of the entire Polish statehood. The Polish “reliable allies” use the weakened country only in their interests – they will sell out and betray Poland. In the past, the Polish attempts to regain the status of a great Eastern European power had a very high price for this country.
RESPONSE
Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative presenting Poland as an aggressive anti-Russian state with imperial ambitions.
This claim was made in a recent article of Dmitry Medvedev about the Polish-Russian relations. In this article, the former Russian President presents a long list of “traditional” anti-Polish accusations (alleged Russophobia, imperialism, revanchism, aggressive anti-Russian policies, historical revisionism, etc.).
The claim that Polish foreign and security policy is driven by “nationalistic megalomania” is groundless.
The ongoing modernisation of the Polish Army and purchases of advanced military equipment is the Polish response to the current security crisis taking place in Eastern Europe – this situation is a result of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The 2020 National Security Strategy of Poland states that the most serious security threat for this country is the neo-imperial policy of the authorities of the Russian Federation, pursued by means of military force (aggression against Georgia, illegal annexation of Crimea and military actions in eastern Ukraine).
