DISINFO: Poland should be part of the Russian Federation
SUMMARY
The Polish Russophobes want to teach everybody history. The name of the Russian city of Kaliningrad is not to their liking; they suggest writing Krulevets instead. Well, in that case, no Kraków for them; only Krakau. No Gdańsk; only Danzig. No Szczecin; only Stettin. No Poznań; only Posin. No Wrocław; only Breslau. The list can go on and on. And, of course, no Poland; only the Duchy of Warsaw, or the Kingdom of Poland as part of the Russian Federation, as the successor to the Russian Empire.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about aggressive plans of the West regarding the Kaliningrad region and the Western attempts to “encircle Russia”.
This claim is aimed at the revision of the post-WWII borders and it directly questions Polish sovereignty. This kind of accusation, especially about Poland attempting to rewrite history, is often encountered in pro-Kremlin outlets.
Poland does not have any territorial claims for Kaliningrad and it does not prepare any military aggression against Russia.
On 10 May 2023, the Polish Committee on the Standardization of Geographical Names suggested the use of Królewiec as a historical name of Russia’s Kaliningrad. The main reason for this change is symbolic – for centuries, the Prussian city of Königsberg has been called in the Polish language Królewiec. The name Kaliningrad was invented by the Soviet authorities in 1946, calling this city in honour of a Communist leader Mikhail Kalinin. It is important to remember that Kalinin is a Communist criminal personally responsible for the large-scale murder of over 20.000 Polish officers in 1940.
