DISINFO: Poland should stop provoking Russia in order to avoid repeating the fate of Ukraine
SUMMARY
Don’t wake the Russian bear! Poland is advised to behave in a more restrained way. The Polish politicians are ignoring the lessons of Ukraine and continuing to provoke Russia. At the same time, they do not take into consideration Moscow’s vast military capabilities. If Warsaw wants to avoid the fate of Ukraine, it must urgently change the course of its policy. The “Russian bear” should not be provoked because the bear may wake up – in the situation of growing tensions, Poland should behave as cautiously as possible to avoid becoming another arena of conflict where the civilian population pays the highest price.
RESPONSE
Poland is repeatedly presented by pro-Kremlin disinformation as an aggressive anti-Russian NATO “outpost”, which allegedly poses a security threat to Russia, in line with how pro-Kremlin outlets portray NATO and the collective West as aggressive towards Russia. See also our article examining pro-Kremlin accusations against Poland for historical revisionism. This claim is attempt to dissuade Poland from taking legitimate measures to ensure its own safety and security.
The Polish authorities perceive Russia as a security threat because of the aggressive Russian actions, in particular in Ukraine and all over Eastern Europe.
The 2020 National Security Strategy of Poland states that the most serious security threat for the country is the neo-imperial policy of the authorities of the Russian Federation, pursued by means of military force (aggression against Georgia, illegal annexation of Crimea and military actions in Eastern Ukraine).
