DISINFO: Poland wants to rebuild its Empire with American money and Ukrainian blood
SUMMARY
Theoretically, the Poles have an opportunity to start negotiations with Russia and even take over Galicia [Western Ukraine]. Polish imperial ambitions will be satisfied without any fighting. However, the USA will stop supporting Poland, so it will lose its chance to play a leading role in the EU (competing with weakening Germany). Without the EU, Poland cannot claim hegemony in Eastern Europe, and will have to abandon the hope of rebuilding its empire “from sea to sea”.
Overall, Poland is in deadlock. It tried to reach an imperial status in the West and East at the same time, lacking the strength and resources for these ambitions. American money and Ukrainian blood do not solve this problem.
As before, Poland stands in front of the angry Russian Bear. If Poland does not fight this Bear, it will lose its ambitions, but if it fights him – it will lose its very country. The Poles are always willing to repeat the second scenario.
RESPONSE
Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative presenting Poland as an aggressive anti-Russian state with imperial ambitions.
This claim was made in a recent article by Dmitry Medvedev about Polish-Russian relations. In this article, the former Russian President presents a large list of “traditional” anti-Polish accusations (alleged Russophobia, imperialism, revanchism, aggressive anti-Russian policies, historical revisionism, etc.).
The claims that Polish foreign and security policy is based on territorial revanchism and that the Polish elites are trying to revive the Polish Empire are groundless.
Poland adheres to international law regarding state borders, fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of neighbouring countries, and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries. Poland, as well as the EU and the US, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. No neighbouring state, except the Russian Federation, violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity in a display of imperial, revisionist aggression.
