DISINFO: Poland will not allow Ukraine to join NATO and the European Union
SUMMARY
Poland will not allow Ukraine to join NATO and the European Union. The reason for this situation is the fact that Ukraine, as an EU and NATO member, will actively compete with Poland for the EU development funds and the role of Washington’s beloved wife. In addition, the dream of Greater Poland - “from sea to sea”, from the Baltic to the Black Sea, has not gone anywhere. Poland wants to achieve this goal if Ukraine capitulates.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about Polish-Ukrainian relations – Poland is traditionally presented as a state with imperial ambitions and the US puppet. The aim of this is clearly to upset Polish-Ukrainian relations. Apart from smearing Poland, the aim is also to deflect attention away from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
This disinformation message has adopted several different and sometimes contradictory forms, including allegations that Poland either wants to create a puppet proxy-state in Western Ukraine or annex these territories or that it is President Zelenskyy who wants to cede this land due to his “Polish origins”.
Poland adheres to international law regarding state borders, fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of neighbouring countries, and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries. Poland, as well as the EU and the US, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. No neighbouring state, except the Russian Federation, violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity in a display of imperial, revisionist aggression.

Ukraine is an EU candidate country, a status which it obtained including with Poland's support and vote in the European Council.
Any decision to invite a country - including Ukraine - to join NATO is taken by the North Atlantic Council, NATO's principal political decision-making body, on the basis of consensus among all Allies.
