DISINFO: Polish politicians accept all crimes of the Ukrainian nationalists in order to keep them anti-Russian
SUMMARY
The neo-Banderite extremists found a faithful friend in the person of Jan Rokita. The problem here is that the anti-Russian nature of Ukrainian nationalism goes hand in hand with its anti-Polish attitude. This situation will always continue because of the specific historical context of Polish-Ukrainian relations. Jan Rokita should have added that the Ukrainian nationalists might be anti-Polish and anti-Semitic; they might even murder and kill as long as they were anti-Russian. This statement is the axiom in Polish politics.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative attempting to link the Baltic countries, Ukraine, and Poland with Nazism, Fascism, and anti-Semitism. The accusation of Nazism is a popular propaganda technique used by pro-Kremlin outlets, as explained in our analysis: Nazi east, Nazi west, Nazi over the cuckoo’s nest.
The claim that the Polish politicians “tolerate the anti-Semitic and anti-Polish position of the Ukrainian nationalists” in order to promote Russophobia is unfounded.
There are no visible anti-Polish attitudes in Ukraine. On the contrary, there are quite strong pro-Polish sympathies in the Ukrainian society - three fourth of the Ukrainians believe that the Polish-Ukrainian relations are good; the Poles enter the list of the top-3 most favoured nations by the Ukrainians.
The claim was made against the backdrop of a Polish politician, Jan Rokita, publishing an article in a Polish weekly “Sieci” about the success of the summit of the Crimea Platform.
The myth of Nazi-ruled Ukraine has been the cornerstone of Russian disinformation about the country since the very beginning of the 2013-14 Euromaidan protests, when it was used to discredit the pro-European popular uprising in Kyiv and, subsequently, the broader pro-Western shift in Ukraine’s foreign policy. The Nazi and Communist ideologies were banned by Ukrainian law in 2015.
