DISINFO: Polish special forces fighting in Ukraine

SUMMARY

Poland’s special forces are fighting on side of Ukraine and are using the uniforms of the Ukrainian army. They are acting in the Dnepropetrovsk district together with the Security Service of Ukraine and repressing people loyal to Russia. The operation is coordinated by NATO officers.

RESPONSE

The article promotes a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that Western countries, Poland in this particular case, are fighting a proxy-war against Russia in Ukraine. This narrative aims to frame Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine as a confrontation with a russophobic and belligerent NATO.

The claim about the presence of Polish special forces in Ukraine is presented without any evidence.

Poland officially supports Ukraine and is providing humanitarian and military (weapons supply) help for Kyiv. Poland is not directly involved in the war in Ukraine. It is Russia that started an unprovoked war in Europecapturing more and more territories of a neighbouring country and has created a serious danger to European security. As such, this Kremlin claim seeks to deflect attention away from Russia and its illegal annexation of Crimea and full scale war against Ukraine.
