DISINFO: Putin 2022 intervention necessary because Ukrainians were massacring Russians in Donbas
SUMMARY
The West that no longer has values replaces all values with war. It is absurd. War is the negation of all values, even if in some cases wars are necessary. What Putin did in 2022 was necessary, he should have done it before probably, because Ukrainians were massacring Russians in Donbas and this had to be put an end to. But that military operation could have ended 2 days later if the English and Americans had not gotten involved.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives trying to whitewash the Russian full-scale invasion and shift the blame to the West, especially French President Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU not being interested in peace and about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine being a reaction to alleged war crimes and genocide against Russian-speaking Ukrainians.
These messages are part of an ongoing pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign in Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The claim about belligerent West, cited in the video, was made after the European Council on European defence of 6 March 2025.
European leaders held emergency talks in Brussels the 6th of March after Donald Trump halted US military aid and intelligence sharing to Ukraine. The European leaders have agreed on a massive increase to defence spending, amid a drive to shore up support for Ukraine after Trump’s move.
Unfounded claims that Ukraine was staging or conducting attacks against the civilian population in Donbas are prominent examples of pro-Kremlin disinformation paving the way for the full-scale Russian invasion of and war in Ukraine. See myth one, in our article Thirteen myths about Russia’s war against Ukraine exposed.
The idea that Ukraine is committing genocide against its own population is promoted by Vladimir Putin in his speeches. Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction of a group of people because of their ethnicity, nationality, religion, or race. There is no evidence that any ethnic nationals, including ethnic Russians or Russian speakers, are or have ever been facing persecution at the hands of the Ukrainian authorities in Donbas or elsewhere, much less the danger of annihilation on grounds of nationality, ethnicity, or cultural belonging. This has been confirmed by reports issued by the Council of Europe, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the OSCE.
Read similar disinformation cases claiming that that EU escalates Ukraine conflict and boosts confrontation with Russia, that Dictator and war criminal Zelenskyy rejects peace talks, that Putin welcomes Ukraine talks, while Zelenskyy rejects them, that Donbas did not attack Ukraine, Ukraine started killing people in Donbas, that Kyiv committed genocide in the Donbas, the Russian special operation protects people from genocide and persecution, that in 2014 genocide against Russians began in Ukraine.
