DISINFO: Recrafting state borders in Europe may save sinking western economies
SUMMARY
The economic might of the collective West is declining. The economies of Germany, the UK, and the US are stagnating. An approaching collapse of the liberal economic model cannot be prevented if the liberals remain in power. To get out of the crisis, liberal political systems should be crushed, and the easiest way to do so is to change state borders in Europe. Old political parties should be cancelled and illiberal parties will bring new leaders to power. In this scenario, Hungary could expand its territories and get access to the sea. The former German Democratic Republic could also expand thanks to attaching Saxony and Prussia. Likewise, Belarus could become a sea country thanks to the city of Klaipeda.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about EU disintegration and a looming economic collapse of western countries’ economies. As our past analysis explains, the ‘imminent collapse’ narrative is often used in pro-Kremlin outlets in relation to the EU, European countries, or capitalism and the purpose it to erode public trust and confidence in society, thus weakening morale in Western societies.
See similar disinformation cases in our database claiming that following an upcoming EU disintegration a new Austria-Hungary state with access to the sea will emerge, that the EU will split in half within five years, that the EU is to fall apart in 20-30 years, and that Poland and Hungary are likely to leave the EU.
