DISINFO: Refusal to invite Russia to commemorate Auschwitz liberation is sacrilege and Russophobia
SUMMARY
The refusal to invite Russia to the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz is sacrilege and part of an anti-Russian campaign to falsify the history of World War II. Poland’s leadership is systematically pursuing the policy of Russophobia, starting with the diminishing of the role of Soviet soldiers in defeating Nazism. Double standards, blatant lies in the interpretation of history, and support for neo-Nazis in Ukraine have become a hallmark of Warsaw's authorities.
RESPONSE
Recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing the West of Russophobia and historical revisionism.
No official Russian delegation was present at the event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp on 27 January 2025. Not because of alleged Western “historical revisionism”, but because of the Kremlin’s decision to start the largest military conflict in Europe since the end of WWII.
Western historians acknowledge the role played by the USSR in defeating Nazism and do not question the Soviet contribution to the victory in WWII and the status of the USSR as one of the countries that won WWII. The official webpage of the Auschwitz / Auschwitz-Birkenau 80th anniversary writes about the liberation of the camp that:
"This hope became reality on January 27, 1945. Red Army soldiers entered Oświęcim that day".
The policy of the US or the EU is not directed against Russia or any other country. See also our article The Kremlin’s misuse of Nazism as a weapon of information manipulation.
